The Meaning:
A tradition of the World Cup is fun and engaging ways to announce the futbol squad. Cultural references, key figureheads of state, humble calls to the people of a nation, etc. These media pieces represent what each nation brings to the world stage.
With the United States being one of the host countries in North America, it’s important to make an impactful statement during that moment.
The High-Level Idea:
We parodied the film Rocky IV’s “Living in America” music video by James Brown. As we travel through the video, , we’re building up to a potluck. All of the people we’re meeting through our video, American singers, talents of America, key figures, fans, and our star player roster, are ‘conga line’ dancing to
“The world’s biggest potluck, grab a plate and join in on the fun, you’re invited to the world's melting pot here in America”.
What this Idea Accomplishes:
This fun and entertaining take on the roster announcment is authentic to the ‘American Spirit’ through our culture and history. It also has the US participate in the spirit of announcment media that the world stage engages in at this time, elevating our platorm. It not only announces the roster squad, it’s a call to action for the world to enjoy the game in our country. It’s aspirational and light hearted during a time where messages like that are hard to engage with.
The Details
The opening shot is of the most well-known futbol player in America. Open with Messi.
Messi is on a stage that’s exposing he’s on a Las Vegas stage and is the center of the show.
We continue our ‘American reveal’ of Vegas, with other symbols and costume presents.
The audience is captive in the Vegas Sphere. We cut in through the crowed to reveal noteworthy Americans, favorite visitors, and other key identifiable figures.
This point is the official reveal of when the Squad Roster for the United States begins. From here we veer off of the shot for shot reference of the music video, and we reveal the full roster
We cut back to the audience from before to see our celebrity cameos grow concerned, excited, etc. They get caught up and all rush the stage.
We see a conga line forming of everyone on stage, and in the room.
Messi is a robust symbol that both addresses some tensions the United States holds with the sport of futbol, and the status of the sport in the country.
As he looks around he realizes how ‘American’ his environment is and we start to see iconic things from our country.
The role of James Brown is Bruno Mars, as he covers “Living in America” and mimics his stage moves and dance.
Noteworthy guest cameo could be Michelle Obama and Gearoge W. Bush. The People enjoy their ‘event-going’ friendship in our cultural moments, and is a nod to a light-hearted small moment that makes the nation feel close.
As Bruno Mars sings the cities through the song, the players reveal themselves and dance across the stage or are seen in the audience or back stage parties throught out vegas and this stage venue.
We cut back to Messi who’s been center stage this whole time, and he looks back to the audience, breaking the 4th wall, and giving us an ‘oh boy, here we go again’ look.
Woth Flavor Flav leading the charge, the conga line starts to move off stage, and outside of the building.
Messi is about to retire, has had the biggest brand collaboration with Apple, and many others. He is the opening bridge for the World Cup stage in the United States.
we see we are in Vegas, a huge destination for sport, and it’s got all the American glitz and glam we’re so famous for.
The band is an impactful set of American cameos, through celebrity or musician.
The role of Uncle Sam is Flavor Flav, America’s hype man, and biggest Olympic Supporter.
When we have finished the rosdter reveal, we cut back to Bruno Mars ‘summoning’ Flavor FLav. We then go back to our music video reference and bring the audience’s attention to all the people on stage. The show is starting to get a little out of control.
Bruno Mars, and Flavor Flav are now joining each other center stage with Messi and the show girls, surrounded by the futbol roster, and the audience of fans and celebrities who’ve rushed the stage.
Everyone ‘congas’ over to the soccer stadium accross the street, and we see our roster athletes rush to the field as we see flags from all over the world fill the foreground of the screen.
