AI and the Creative Process: A Personal Study.

As new AI tools are developing, I took it upon myself to learn how they work and figure out how they will fit into the commercial creative process. Below are assets that have been created with generative AI. I used programs such as Midjourny, Adobe Firefly, and Udio Audio to created a series of AI songs and album covers to accompany the concept.

I was curious to see and hear how generative AI uses a library of references to create new work. As I kept learning how to prompt AI and discovered it’s shortcomings, and learned it’s tools I found there was always an awkward tell in the generated AI. I then was curious to work it out so that iI could make things feel genuinely human.

I found that Generative AI is an incredible tool for concepting ideas, getting buy in on a project, and generally how it can create faster work in a professional setting.

I also found an incredible sense of familiarity in the sound and visuals produced by AI. As a leader in the design space, I am curious where the lines are on parody and copy right. It’s been proving to be a genuine grey area that can affect the professional creative process.

As I continue my research, I have enjoyed the process of creating things I never had to build skills in (like music). It’s been enriching, and perplexing. Explore my researched work, and determine for yourself what those lines may be.

I put a graphic/type treatment on the imagery to help design ‘album covers’ .

I wrote all lyrics of the music and prompted instrumentals and vocal styles with the AI.
