Personal Pilates by Liz is a pilates studio I work with in a lot of ways. I create the branding, built and currently maintain a squarespace site, provide original artwork, paint murals, design apparel, business cards, and print marketing materials for this business. Also, this business belongs to my Mom. Together we have invested a lot of love into her small but successful studio that is over 5 years old now.
Learning A Lot About Small Business Brand Identity:
Over the years Liz has challenged me to figure out how to help her market her business through grass roots approaches. I’ve had to figure out how to make door hangers (and hang them on ALL the doors in neighborhoods around us). How to write SEO for her business to be top tier on google searches in her area so she can compete with franchise pilates studios. I’ve had to learn how to read social media analytics that helps her become independent in manager her own social accounts, and reach her audience who is typically older. How to develop a brand experience from online to in studio that her clients can identify with. This also leads into how informative Liz’s website has to be. Through all these endeavors Liz has received high praise on platforms such as Google, Facebook, and Yelp and has been sought after by top athletes. Mostly due to her skill in Pilates, but also in the information presented to her clientele. Personal Pilates by Liz has a reputation of being a fun place to learn and practice Pilates and this is in part to her over all visual presence and marketing strategy we worked on together.
Illustrating the ‘Pilates My Ass’ Character:
I'm sure you've noticed this weird horse animal all over the Personal Pilates collateral, it's a donkey and it's called "The Weird Ass". I created the Weird Ass for the purpose of using puns, and for having an icon to connect the concept that it was never meant to be a perfect athlete. Liz's approach to pilates is that it's for everyone, and a lot of people are intimidated to start pilates in fear of not being fit or flexible enough. The "Pilates Ass" invites clients not to worry. She is an icon that is used through out Liz's studio through framed images of actual pilates poses as well as 2 murals in her studio, and on all of her official Personal Pilates by Liz merch!
